Testing should answer a small practical question: can the chosen device send an ordinary print job, and can the multifunction printer create and save a basic scan? Use harmless material, check the result, and record the limits of the test. A successful test does not prove that every paper size, application, network condition or hardware feature will work.

Use a small, repeatable check
Test printing first, then scanning if the equipment supports it. Keep the result and notes separate from any broader fault investigation.
Print one pageChoose ordinary paper, a clear document and the intended printer. Check legibility, orientation, size and margins.Read this part
Scan one itemUse official supported software, save one harmless scan to the intended folder, and open the saved file.Read this part
Record the boundaryNote what worked, what was not tested and any visible issue without treating the check as a full diagnostic.Read this part
Print one page
Choose a harmless document and the paper type already loaded. In the print dialogue, select the intended printer, paper size, orientation and one copy. Avoid changing several settings at once.
After printing, check that the text is legible, the page is the expected size and orientation, and the margins are sensible. Look for obvious smears, missing areas or unexpected blank pages. If the result is not right, record the selected settings and the visible result before trying another change.
Scan one item
If the printer includes a scanner, place one harmless item according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the official supported scanning software, select the available source and output options, and save the result to the intended folder.
Open the saved file and check that it can be viewed, that the whole item is present and that it is readable at a practical size. Windows users can refer to Microsoft’s scanner instructions for the supported scanning workflow.
Record what you found
| Item | Check | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| One page is legible and correctly sized | The selected device completed this ordinary print check | |
| Scan | A saved file opens and shows the full item | The basic scan-and-save path worked for this test |
| Untested | Other apps, sizes, features or devices | No conclusion has been made about those conditions |
Write down the printer model, device used, connection type, date and result. Record anything not tested. Do not describe a single successful page or scan as a full warranty assessment or proof that the hardware has no faults.
Choose the next step
If the basic check fails, preserve the visible error and the settings used. Re-read the exact model instructions before making repeated changes. A problem with an application, network, paper path or queue may need a different investigation from a problem with the printer itself.
Keep this test separate from broader printer fault diagnosis. Do not disassemble the equipment or force trays, covers or cartridges. If a result is unsafe, unusual or unclear, stop using the printer until the relevant instructions or appropriate support have been checked.
