Slow computer help · Ivanhoe & Eaglemont

Computer painfully slow? Find out whether to fix, upgrade or replace.

We assess storage, software, updates, security indicators, age and Windows compatibility, then explain the proportionate next step before you spend on parts or a new computer.

The symptoms

Does this sound familiar?

Starting takes forever

The computer eventually turns on, but startup drags, apps hesitate and ordinary tasks keep freezing.

Storage, updates or background tasks get in the way

Space warnings, failed updates or unseen software make the machine feel busy before you have done anything.

You do not know whether it is worth upgrading

Windows 10 support, Windows 11 compatibility and the computer's age make it hard to tell whether repair or replacement is sensible.

Diagnose before buying

Find the bottleneck. Then decide what the computer is worth.

A slow computer is a symptom, not a diagnosis. We check the practical causes and the Windows lifecycle together so a repair, upgrade or replacement recommendation is based on this machine rather than a generic sales pitch.

Storage and drive condition

We review available space, obvious storage pressure and signs that the drive may be limiting everyday performance.

Startup and background software

We look for unnecessary startup items, sync jobs and background processes competing for the computer's resources.

Updates and system condition

We check whether stalled updates, damaged system files or configuration problems are contributing to the slowdown.

Security indicators

We check for signs that warrant a malware or account-security response without assuming every slow computer is infected.

Age and performance fit

We compare the computer's condition and capability with what you actually need it to do, rather than judging it by age alone.

Windows 11 compatibility

We check whether the hardware is eligible and whether upgrading is proportionate for the computer's condition and intended use.

Windows 10 support path

We explain the current supported options that apply to the device, including interim security-support paths where available, before recommending replacement.

What is included

Clear scope. No mystery box.

Symptom and history review

We establish what feels slow, what changed and which tasks matter most before changing the computer.

60–75 minute onsite assessment

We assess the agreed performance, storage, update, security and compatibility areas in one joined-up visit at your home.

Safe fixes within scope

Straightforward configuration and cleanup steps can be completed where they are safe, appropriate and inside the agreed project.

Windows lifecycle assessment

You get a clear view of Windows 11 compatibility and the supported paths that make sense for this computer.

Repair, upgrade or replace recommendation

We explain which path is proportionate, what it is likely to achieve and what should not be worth spending money on.

Written decision plan

You receive a concise plain-English record of the result, remaining risks and the recommended fix, upgrade or replace path.

How it works

From frustrating to understood.

  1. 1

    Tell us what feels slow

Share the symptoms, the jobs you use the computer for and any warnings or recent changes you have noticed.

  2. 2

We diagnose the machine and its Windows path

We isolate the likely bottlenecks, complete agreed safe fixes and assess compatibility, condition and support options.

  3. 3

    Choose the proportionate next step

We explain whether to keep using, repair, upgrade, take an interim supported path or replace the computer, with separate work quoted before it begins.

Before you book

Frequently asked, fully answered.

What does the $190 fixed-price assessment include?

The GST-inclusive price includes a 60–75 minute onsite assessment, local call-out in Ivanhoe or Eaglemont, safe straightforward fixes within scope, Windows compatibility review and a concise written fix, upgrade or replace plan. Parts and separately scoped workshop or follow-up work are not included.

Can every slow computer be fixed in one visit?

No. Some faults need replacement parts, account recovery, provider work or a separately scoped follow-up. We will explain the blocker and the next practical step rather than pretending every machine has an instant fix.

Does a slow computer mean it has malware?

Not necessarily. Storage pressure, updates, background software, ageing hardware and failing components can produce similar symptoms. We check the evidence before recommending a security response.

Can I keep using Windows 10?

A Windows 10 computer may continue to start and run, but Microsoft's standard support has ended. We assess the current security and support options that apply to the device, including whether an interim supported path is available, rather than assuming immediate replacement.

Can you tell me whether this computer should move to Windows 11?

Yes. We check hardware eligibility and practical condition together. Compatibility alone does not make an upgrade worthwhile if the computer is unreliable or no longer fits what you need it to do.

What happens if replacement is the sensible option?

We explain why and what specification would fit your needs. Hardware, data transfer and new-computer setup are separate from the diagnosis and are scoped and priced before any additional work begins.

Tell us what the computer is doing

Include the device type, the main symptoms, any Windows warning you can see and what you need the computer to handle. We will use that context to confirm the starting scope.
