Preparation is separate from connecting the printer. Before unboxing, make sure you know which device will use it, where it can sit safely and which items the exact model needs. This reduces hurried decisions and makes it easier to identify a missing cable, cartridge, paper type or instruction before the setup begins.

Confirm the model
Record the printer’s exact model name before opening the packaging. Locate the manufacturer’s manual and check the supported operating system, connection options and any setup sequence it specifies.
Decide which primary computer or mobile device will be used first. Note the device type and operating system, but do not write down passwords, authentication codes or other secrets. If the printer has a separate scan function, check whether the instructions name a particular scanning application.

Prepare the space
Choose a stable, level and accessible surface close to suitable power. Leave enough room to open paper trays, lift the scanner lid and remove ordinary packaging without twisting the device.
The equipment should be safe for one person to handle. Do not attempt to lift a heavy printer alone, change furniture, install permanent cabling or force the printer into a cramped position. If the intended location is not safe or accessible, pause and choose a better location before unboxing.
Gather ordinary essentials
Check that the box contains the printer, power cable and the items listed for the exact model. Have suitable paper ready, along with the supplied cartridge or toner. If the planned connection is USB, check the manual for the required cable type and have a compatible cable available.
Do not connect a USB cable prematurely if the manual says to wait. Some models require ordinary assembly or software installation first. Keep packaging and small parts together until setup is complete, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for anything that must remain attached or be removed.
Once the items and space are ready, move to the separate setup process: connect the printer, add it to the chosen device, then test printing and scanning independently.
